2016 Beauty Highlights

Hello hello wonderful humans! What a year has it been am I right?! Despite the constant memes making fun of 2016 I don’t think it was a shabby year. I mean on a world news scale, yes it was border line apocalyptic BUT I found it to be fairly pleasant.

Of course today’s post aint for self-reflection but where I tell you about the makeup discoveries I made this year! And can I just say what a pain in the butt it can be trying to fit one’s yearly favorites in a single photo. It took me a couple of tries but still not ideal. Why did i have to love over three palettes this year.

Any who let’s jump in!

Makeup geek eye shadows – so this was the year I FINALLY tried makeup geek. For so long I procrastinated making an order because of the wide shade range. There were so many shades I wanted I found it overwhelming so I just held off on making an order all together. When I finally did get around to trying them, I made another order and then another. And now I own over 60+ shades. I have a extra-large Z palette which is filled and a complete large Z palette as well! I adore these eye shadows! They are PIGMENTED and BUTTERY and AFFORDABLE. They have a super wide shade range and there is not a single bad thing about these eye shadows. Before I tried them I told myself I would not purchase high end eye shadow palettes until I tried makeup geek. Now that I’ve tried them I just don’t see the point in purchasing high end eye shadow palettes. Like what for. If I see a high end eye shadow palette I like I can easily replicate it using makeup geek shadows. So if you didn’t get the gist of my little love ballad here, I love makeup geek eye shadows. I definitely plan to make many more orders AND try their highlighters, contour and blushes and their new lip products.

Becca highlighters – I know these aren’t new releases or anything not all of the products I mention in this post are but it shouldn’t be a surprise why the Becca highlighters have made the list. I have the shade opal and champagne pop and boy oh boy am I in love. They make your cheekbones beam! They are pigmented and wonderfully intense. I am too obsessed with these, I wear them day and night.

The chichi ‘highlighter’ palette – this is a fairly new addition. Many of the chichi palettes I am mentioning today are. I’ve played with them each a few times but I love them! This highlighter palette is so gorgeous and wonderful for an everyday highlight. The highlighters aren’t too intense but they are also not annoyingly natural. And while some of the shades may look dark and not suitable on the cheekbones, they make gorgeous eye shadows.

Maybelline master concealer – I have loved 99% of the Maybelline concealers I have tried. Literally all but one! So when I spotted this new one in stores it was a no brainer that I had to get it. It sits very nicely under the eyes, covers what it needs to cover, doesn’t crease or look cakey. Another concealer gem from Maybelline!

Color pop – Color pop is another brand I finally got around to trying out! The shipping fees always put me off in addition to their massive range that makes you want everything.

Too face born this way foundation – Yes this is one of those incessantly talked about foundations. And yes it absolutely lives up to the hype! I love how when you apply it you get flawless coverage yet it doesn’t look very detectable on the skin. I’m in love with this foundation!

The chichi ‘ombre blush’ palette – Another chichi palette I picked up fairly recently. I adore this blush palette the three large shades in the middle have an ombre effect and they’re gorgeous! An all the other blushes are regular but they too are awesome. This palette is both wearable but it includes some fun colors which keeps it from being boring. And I love how the shades all have female names.

Beauty blender – Dam was I late to the band wagon with this one. Partly because I didn’t think $20+ bucks on a sponge was worth it. But IT IS WORTH IT! I am not of a fan of sponges when it comes to blending out foundation as I find it absorbs way to much product. But for blending out concealer it is life! I do like to bounce the sponge over my face once I’ve blended my foundation out with a brush, just to soak up any cakey areas.

Makeup brushes from: ebay, alliexpress and ebay – This year I really hit the discovery towards ridiculously cheap makeup brushes that still work amazingly! Ebay, alliexpress and wish being the sites that I’ve been loving for buying tons of makeup brushes. Whether its brush sets or single brushes, they are dupes of brushes like sigma and real techniques but they still work wonderfully. No shade being thrown towards real techniques I still love that brand and think they are very worth it.

Sports girl pout about it lipsticks – These lipsticks aren’t necessarily new to me, I first discovered them a few years back. BUT this year they came out with many nude shades and boy am I in love. Nude lipsticks fill my soul and these lipsticks are so underrated. They’re comfy on the lips, the nude shades are beautiful and they last a decent time.

Thebalms tinted moisturizer – I think we are all fond of this makeup brand because it brought mary loumanizer into are lives. Other than that highlighter and this tinted moisturizer I haven’t tried anything else yet. I do plan to! I love how hydrating and pretty on the skin this tinted moisturizer looks. It’s perfect for when you want a very natural base and it’s quick and easy to apply.

Chichi contour kit I pretty much love to hoard contouring products and I am not planning to slow down on that front. There are just so many wonderful contouring palettes, duos, trios etc. in the drugstore. So I picked up the chichi contour palette because I have this need to own every contour product under the sun BUT this blew me away. It is so stinkin’ blendable which makes it easy to use. It’s not too intense, not too natural. It sits perfectly in the middle.

Sleek highlighter kit – So 2016 has definitely been the year of a highlighter craze. I am no complaining and I don’t plan getting over this trend any time soon because who doesn’t want to glow. This is another hyped up highlighter and it lives up to the hype! It gives such a gorgeous glow! And it’s not chalky or glittery or weird like how some drugstore highlighters can

Nyx matte bronzer – I picked this bronzer up on a whim and ended up really loving it! I reach for it constantly. I use it to sort of contour with, while adding a cool toned contour shade in addition to it. It’s blendable, it doesn’t go patchy or weird and I love it! Click here to read the review.

Chichi viva la diva lipsticks – I picked one of these up early in the year and my addiction turned into 8 more lipstick a few months later. They are comfortable on the lips and they have many many many shades! Of course I got most of the nude shades because I have a major addiction.

Shop miss a blushes – So this year I discovered a little site known as shop miss A. Almost everything is $1 each. $1.40 ish if you live in Australia. They have all sorts of things including drugstore makeup. There are some things I don’t bother with like foundation or eyeliner because all the makeup is so affordable. I mean how good could a foundation be that is less than 2 bucks?! And this is me saying it, you guys know I adore drugstore makeup. But blushes are a pretty easy thing to get right and I picked up lots of blushes and they’re awesome and pretty.

And that wraps the post. See any products you are a fan of? What have you been loving in 2016? Drop a comment and let me know. I hope you all have an awesome day, here is to a great 2017. I love you guys and I’ll see you in the next post.

Colourpop!!! I just got my first colourpop lippie set this past Christmas and I’m in love. Their ultra matte formula doesn’t dry out your lips and literally feels as if there is nothing on your lips. x

So many great new beauty products! I’ve sort of forgotten about makeup geek and was tempted by their most recent sale… but eventually resisted. But your review has me regretting that decision XD Becca highlighters and beautyblenders were two of my 2016 favorites too! I’ll also have to check out the balm’s tinted moisturizer 🙂 Thanks for all the beauty recs! Can’t wait to see what you have in store for us in 2017 🙂

I love my Too Faced foundation also. It’s definitely my Holy Grail. I was late on the Beauty Blender bandwagon also. I use it for my foundation, concealer, powder and blush application. It is so good. I want to try the Sleek Cleopatra highlighter. It looks so good.

The foundation is definitely some kind of magic right there. I didn’t want to try it at first because I knew i’d over it and it’s pricey for a sponge. I also want to try that new sleek highlight as well.

Great post lovely. Sleek highlighter palette has been favourite for so many. I have not seen Chichi makeup products in the UK. Is it only limited to Australia?

I know I also want to get the Cleopatra highlighter kit. Chichi is an aussie brand BUT their site ships internationally so from there many other countries have access.

We have so many similar faves! I agree with the makeup geek eyeshadows! The shade selection is so wide that it was overwhelming to decide which ones to select. I have about 6 and are so happy with them! I also love my Becca highlighters!

I just can’t get over how much I love makeup geek shadows. It makes me not even want to look at high end eye shadow palettes like what for. And on pinterest there are a lot of dupe photos using makeup geek shadows to replicate high end palettes. Of course becca highlighters are a game changer
