All about the base | hydrating + full coverage

Hey there lovely humans. This post is quite exciting! As you know I am shameless when it comes to blog series. Often without even trying, some blog ideas magically poof and turn into a blog series. This is mostly because I can’t keep things short and down to a top 5 or top 10 kind of deal. Is it just me or when I don’t include a certain beauty product I feel as though I am playing favorites with my kids.

Anyway! My craziness aside, today I am bringing to you a brand new blog series! I have been working on this for quite a long time actually. This blog series is called ‘All about the base’ and each post I will be talking to you guys about a different type of base.

What is a base? Well I count it as Primer and/or setting spray + Foundation + Concealer + Setting Powder. Each of those counts as a base product but together they comprise the base of your makeup. You guys know I am a base junkie, and if you don’t have a good base, you can kiss the dream of your makeup looking good that day good bye!

So each time I bring to you one of these posts from this series, it will be a different type of base. I personally have Dry/dehydrated skin with a shiny t-zone but I will try and cater for you guys with oiler skin types as well.

So from the tittle the first post of this series needs no introduction and it’s one of my favorites. Today I am going to talk about a full coverage and hydrating base!

Here we go!
Nivea after shave balm
Yes the men’s after shave product that has sky rocketed to best primer is included in this look. I am so impressed with this it isn’t even funny. It’s both hydrating and helps to keep your makeup in place all day so it’s essential for this look. | Review |
L’Oreal Paris magic blur primer
Because I am using a watery type foundation, I like to include a pore blurring primer as they tend to become accentuated whenever the foundation I use has a water like quality.
Urban decay naked skin foundation
Said watery based foundation that I mentioned above. It has crazy good coverage considering it’s watery like nature. It comes close to looking like skin because of how thin the formula is but it simultaneously gives you flawless skin. It’s hydrating but if you are suffering from dry patches, watch out because this foundation doesn’t cover up crazy dry patches well.

Clarins instant concealer
One of my favorite concealers underneath the eyes. It sits so well there which is a rare thing for me because my under eye area is a giant mess. It has great coverage as well and is an all-rounder. | Review |

Mac studio fix concealer
Spot concealer doesn’t play a key role, sometimes depending on how my skin is going the foundation covered up everything that needed to be covered so I don’t use spot concealer at all.

Mac fix +
I personally use this right before or right after primer because I don’t like applying it over foundation. No matter how I go about it, this spray doesn’t work for me when I spray it over foundation.

Chichi mineral powder
All the shades except for the translucent shades are technically mineral foundations. I like to use the shade fair as a setting powder though. It’s finely milled and gives extra coverage over the foundation. Also great to use if you are using a light coverage foundation.

That’s a wrap for today’s post ma peeps! What products do you use for your base when you guys are going for a hydrating yet full coverage look? Let me know in the comments below. I’ll see you guys in the next post, have a great day!

I heard many people talk about using the Nivea after shave balm as a primer but I never tried it myself. It is impressive how an after shave product is excellent for moisturising the face and gives the perfect base for foundation.

I was skeptical but it worked wonderfully for me. Like any primer, skin type plays a key role in how much you’ll like this primer.

I am still experimenting. My skin used to be so oily and only got dry recently, so I haven’t really figured out what works best.

It doesn’t work for everyone. You do have a better chance of it working if you skin is dry / dehydrated but I know some who have more oily skin and still love it. But it’s worth a go!

I’ve heard the men’s Nivea stuff is genius! I have yet to test it out though. These are all great products. You should try Tarte’s shape tape concealer, it’s amazing! 🙂

It works wonderfully on me. It all depends on how your skin works with it. But it allows my foundation to go on wonderfully and sit better throughout the day. I’ve heard amazing things about that Tarte concealer I am definitely keen on trying it.

I’m a total base-junkie too, so this was the perfect post for me to read! I still haven’t tried the Nivea shave balm as a primer, so I definitely need to pick it up asap. I totally agree with you about the Clarins concealer, it never exaggerates the fine lines under my eyes and keep the under-eye area looking so hydrated and bright!

I heard many Youtubers swear by the Nivea After shave balm as a primer but I haven’t tried it myself. I keep for getting to pick one up but I also find it so strange that I’m going to be using it as a primer but so many people can’t be wrong right? I love MAC Fix+.

It depends on your skin type as well. It does work differently as we all have different skin, but if you are looking for something hydrating that will keep your foundation looking fresh, you may have luck with it. x
