The Beauty Chat | The Struggles of Aussie Makeup Lovers

So you are probably thinking something looks a little bit different. Well I have finally made my blog self hosted *throws confetti around*. I am definitely a technology noob – like I only know the basics and I especially don’t know squat about running a site or any of that technical stuff. So I am so excited to finally have the freedom with my blog I have always wanted. Now I am still playing around with the layout and have a long way to go but it’s so far looking good. I definitely need to read about on CSS and all that brain melting stuff. Now it’s been a hot minute since I’ve put up a post. My apologies – I did promise you lovely humans I’d post twice a week. I just wanted to sort all this site drama out before a new post went up. So it’s finally time for a good ol’ post. Now I felt like kicking back with another beauty chat post and have us all bonding over the struggles of being a makeup lover – specifically for us aussie makeup lovers BUT I am sure many of you will find this relatable.

Let’s jump in!

Drugstore makeup is twice the price over here | Like it’s literally almost twice as much over here. Brands like Rimmel, Maybelline, nyx etc. We pay like 40% extra. So that pretty much sucks. I mean drugstore makeup I meant to be affordable but when Revlon lip stuff are over 20 bucks it does get a bit annoying.

Shipping fees | Some sites are fine they are reasonable in the shipping fees department. Like they’ll give us free shipping once we’ve spent a certain amount. Other sites *coughs* morphe *coughs* expect us to pay about 40 bucks in shipping fees just to get two eye shadow palettes. That’s so not fair!

We can’t access all brands | More and more brands are being made international which is awesome. While other brands like Kiko are straight up not available which sucks because it looks so good! While other brands like milani or jordana are only semi available in that we only have access to a bit of their range. This makes it frustrating especially because they’re so affordable and yet we can’t get to them.

Brand new launches take forever to get here | I’m still waiting on some Maybelline products to be released over here. It’s annoying when see people rave about a product all over the blogging world and mean while we’re old and in rocking chairs by the time it gets to us.

Mac lipsticks | I included this one because of the price difference compared to the US. In the US it’s around 16 bucks, it’s $39 AUD in Australia. We pay more than double which for a lipstick stinks.

And that wraps up the post? Do you guys feel like ranting about anything makeup related? Rant away in the comments! I hope you all have an awesome day and I’ll see you in the next post. Love you guys.

I hate the duty taxes when ordering outside EU 😐 I mean 23 euros is not enough and the taxes are so high. It annoys me so much. I love your post 🙂

I know right! I like to know all the money I am spending is going towards the makeup itself not shipping and all of that. Thank you!

Wow! I had heard that beauty products were more expensive in Australia but I had no idea just how much more! That’s pretty tough going! I guess keeping an eye on blog sales would be a good thing to do? xx

Yeah we feel it more with the drugstore makeup. It’s frustrating because drugstore makeup should be more affordable and I am in general a drugstore makeup junkie. I mostly shop online, I find better online deals and when I buy makeup in stores I wait for sales. x

    Congratulations on the self-hosting lovely!!

I didn’t realise it was more expensive in Australia, such a pain! Although everything seems to be more expensive?! So maybe I shouldn’t be so surprised!

      Thank you hun!

Yes and what is frustrating is in general I am obsessed with drugstore makeup, I go high end when the individual beauty product has caught my attention – lots of high-end makeup doesn’t actually appeal to me. So you’d think i’d be saving money but nope haha. In Australia the nyx contour kit is $40 which frustrates me because they aren’t even on the higher end of drugstore makeup.

After reading this post I definitely take for granted how easy it is to get makeup here in the UK!

Whatever you guys pay for makeup, double it and that is how much we pay so brands like pixie or even charlotte tilbury and especially the body shop are twice as much here.

Congrats on your self-hosted blog! There’s a learning curve at first but you’ll soon appreciate how much more flexible it is and the amount of things you can do with it 😀

Eek, that really sucks that drugstore brands are so expensive there, doesn’t make sense at all D: Being in the US I really shouldn’t complain, but one small gripe I have is with the FDA not approving certain SPF ingredients, so we get different (aka crappier) sunscreens compared to the rest of the world :/

Thank you very much. There definitely is a learning curve but I all I desired with my blog was freedom and flexability to control how it looked like. It was always a goal of mine and I decided to bite the bullet and do it despite not being techno-savy. It does suck, I have a particular addiction to drugstore makeup but you don’t end up saving money in Australia haha. That sucks especially how important SPF is.

I was horrified when I seen how much you guys pay for MAC there, so so bad! We don’t have it easy in the UK, it can be a pain to get American brands, but I feel for you guys!

It really does suck, mac is actually quite affordable in other countries but we pay nearly $50 for a lipstick.

I have recently moved to Australia.. and the main thing I see here is the considerable difference in makeup products’ prices as compared to what I used to get in the US. I have tried ordering some of the products from the US but the shipment often gets delayed. Please suggest a good online Australian store from where I can buy the makeup stuff at reasonable prices.

I often buy online these days because I find good bargains. I wouldn’t say there is particularly an Australian site that is reasonably priced. But if you are interested in the brand – makeup revolution they have a flat rate shipping of $19 but you can buy as much makeup as you want and the shipping price does not go up. Their makeup is incredibly affordable and so good. Iherb is also a good site to buy from, they ship to Australia fairly quickly and have decently priced stuff. The known brands that they sell are E.L.F, Physician’s formula, real techniques and Iherb. I also find feelunique while not an aussie site has frequent sales so that is a good place to check out. xx
