It’s absolutely no secret when it comes to my feelings on makeup geek. Now you peeps on here may have only gotten a sneak peek in regards to my obsession with that brand I typically don’t shut up about them over on Instagram. *Insert shameless self-promotion here!* Not to sound lame but my love for their eyeshadows is pretty much boundless and with boundless love comes A LOT of blog post ideas. So much so I may as well lump them under a blog series. You guys know that I could turn air into a blog series. But this brand, ESPECIALLY their eyeshadows – a simple information packed review is not even close to the justification it deserves. So anything to do with makeup geek (not just their eyeshadows but let’s face it there a lot of posts due to arrive about their eyeshadows) will be under the blog series – Makeup Geek! It’s sort of a blog series ish I’m only technically calling it a blog series due to the high volume of posts it will consist of with the brand Makeup Geek being a common theme.
Okay, that long ass tangent aside I thought I’d kick start this Makeup geek extravaganza with a post is a good ol’ review post! It wouldn’t make sense if I did makeup geek themed posts without actually having reviewed the eye shadows for you.
So here we go!
Shade selection: I thought I would start with the blatantly obvious. The shade range of the makeup geek eyeshadows is out of this world! The shade range is easily in the hundreds. I currently own 62 (ish) of their shades and there is many many many I don’t own as of yet. It can be overwhelming when you first look at the shade range because you don’t even know where to start and you want so many shades but start off small, testing a few shades and just go from there. I will be writing a post in regards to my must have shades AND one for those new to the makeup world who want to try makeup geek but aren’t knowledgeable as of yet to all things eye shadow. But yes in a nutshell they have every color under the sun!
Pigmentation: The pigmentation of the shades is AH-Maze-BALLS. Whether it’s a dark nude shade, a colorful shade, a transition shade or white/cream shades. I haven’t come across not even a single shade that has bad pigmentation. The consistency is unbelievable!
Is there any fallout?: Nope. I hardly see any fallout. The color pop pressed shadows definitely have more fall out. Nothing shocking but if you compare the two eye shadows by the different brands you will see makeup geek barely has any fallout! Especially the makeup geek foiled eyeshadows – they don’t experience any fallout.
Do they blend well?: Yes, they do. My eyeshadow standards definitely skyrocketed once I tried these shadows. I do still think Makeup Revolution have good quality eyeshadows but makeup geek is on another level! They blend so lovely and honestly just improve your eyeshadow skills.
The finish of the shades: Makeup Geek has so many different type finishes. There is duo chrome, matte, satin, shimmer and foiled. They have a lot of options when it comes to the finish of the shades. They even have loose glitters and loose eye shadows!
Availability: The makeup geek site, which I personally recommend as any new launches or anything will appear on there first and any shipping fees are reasonable. That’s me saying that and I hate paying any shipping fees. Beauty bay also sells makeup geek!
Price: It depends on the eyeshadow. The eyeshadows are divided into three categories – eyeshadow pans, foiled and duo chrome. The eye shadow pans and the duo chromes are $6 US and the foiled eyeshadows are $10US.
Wearability: Due to the massive shade range there isn’t any eyeshadow look you can’t create using makeup geek eye shadows. From glam dramatic smokey eyes to a very simple every day eye shadow look. Everything is covered by makeup geek!
Packaging: Now the makeup geek packaging or lack of packaging is what makes them bloody brilliant! The pressed eyeshadow is literally placed in a plan and that is it really. You purchase an empty magnetic palette (Z palette is the most popular one) and plot in all the eyeshadow you buy! Seriously once you try out this new type of packaging you will never look back!
Pros: Where do I begin! The quality of the eyeshadows is unbelievable. They have a MASSIVE shade range, their packaging gives you the best of both worlds – you select every shade you want, repurchase one you hit pan on whatever shades without having to repurchase a whole palette. They are also such a bargain for how amazing they are! I could go on and on and on about just how much I love these eyeshadows. You could also dupe a high-end eyeshadow palette using makeup geek shades!
Cons: There are no cons! I do wish I had access to these shadows in store so I can by bit by bit and continue growing my collection steadily rather than saving up and buying a crazy amount at a time but oh well!
Rating: 10/10!!! Seriously no joke! For me they have removed the need to ever go high end with eyeshadow! I’d only go high end for eyeshadows made in a pan so I could place them in my own palette. I don’t see myself going high end for a pre-made palette.
What shades would I repurchase?: Cream Brulee, Legend, In the spotlight, sidekick, tan lines, Grandstand, Tuscan sun, Cinderella.
Would I recommend this? I 1000000% recommend this to everyone!
Overall thoughts: There is seriously no way I could find any flaw with the makeup geek eyeshadows. They are affordable, brilliant quality, a mind-blowing shade range AND they give you the freedom to make your own palettes – so you get total flexibility. I can’t stop saying amazing things about their eye shadows!
That wraps up this post! Have you tried out makeup geek eyeshadows? Do you like making your own eye shadow palettes? Drop a comment and let’s get chatting! I hope you all have an awesome day and I’ll see you in the next post!
