Mac Mineralized Skin finishes | Soft & Gentle and Lighscapade

Hello there you beautiful humans!

So I’m a bit of a highlighter addict *Narrator: she was more than a “bit” of an addict*. I love to look glowy and radiant and have my skin look luminous. So naturally I like to paint my face in highlighters to do so. The Mac mineralized skin finishes have been a highlighter that has been hyped up for years, way before highlighters were all the range. So I figured why not review them for you as I do own two shades.

Sound good? Cool! Let’s jump into the review.

Does it work with many skin tones? While soft and gentle appears a deeper shade in the pan I’m still able to wear it and I’m quite fair in skin tone.

Is it overly glittery? No. This highlighter provides a subtle sheen to the skin, nothing overly intense or glittery.

Is it too natural? For me it’s on the gentle side, (though I like my highlight blinding) but when you spray your highlighter brush with a little bit of Fix + and you do get an extra boost of glow but still these highlighters aren’t glowy enough for me to wear on my own. Maybe it’s not as subtle as I’m making them out to be – but I love my highlighters so intense so anything short of that seems not very intense).

Is it available in many shades? This highlighter comes in 6 shades

Day or night appropriate?: I personally find this to be a day time wear highlighter (though I still wear a super intense highlighter during the day as well). If you like your highlighter subtle then this is both day & night time appropriate.

Where is it best for applying on the face? I personally apply this all over the cheeks and cheek bones.

Price: $54 AUD

Availability: Mac Au site (and mac counters), Myer, Mecca

Formula? The formula of these highlighters go on smooth, and don’t look textured on the skin but when you swatch them and feel them they have this slightly rough feel to them – only because they feel more baked.

Highlighter on fleek? To be honest, the glow factor is quite subtle for my taste. I know many who love wearing soft and gentle on its own but when I wear these highlighters I always have to top them off with a more intense highlighter.

Pros: If you love subtle highlighters this one is for you, the highlighter looks very smooth & non-textured on the skin. The shade range is wide and when you spray your brush with some fix +, the intensity does increase.

Cons: If you are looking for a super intense, blinding highlight then this highlighter won’t tickle your fancy. It’s not super affordable either.

Rating: 7/10

Overall thoughts This is a nice highlighter, I don’t mean to slam them so harshly but from the highlighters I use frequently, if they aren’t intense I don’t reach for them much. I do still use them underneath a much more intense highlighter but these highlighters won’t go on any holygrail list for me.

Would I repurchase? No, I actually gave them away as part of decluttering because I just wasn’t reaching for them enough and this highlighter hoarder is trying to somewhat down size. I prefer the Mac extra dimension finish highlighters, especially the one in double gleam.

And that wraps up this post! Have you guys tried the infamous Mac mineralized skin finishes? Were you a fan? How intense do you like your highlight? Drop a comment and let’s chat about it! As always I hope you have an awesome day and I’ll see you in the next post.

It is quite a nice highlighter but when you have 40 + highlighters you have to ask yourself is it worth holding onto haha.

The swatches make this highlighter look so dry, which I’m not a fan of. I have a few highlighters in my collection that give me just the right amount of glow with a much lower price tag, so these won’t be for me. Sorry MAC!

The highlighters are on the frosty side when you swatch them + how they look in the pan. I adore the Mac double gleam extra dimension finish highlighter – it’s smoother, super glowy but flattering and glides onto the skin, that’s what made me let go of these two!

These MSFs from MAC are so pretty! I do have to say that when I first got Soft & Gentle I was a bit disappointed, but now that I’ve had it for a while and given it some time I actually really love it!

I wasn’t blown away by them and while many rave about them I just had too many other highlighters in my collection that I prefer so I had to give them away to a better home.

This sounds like something that I would love! I am over the intense highlight trend so this sounds right up my alley.

For me I love how intense highlighters sculpt my face, so it’s not something I’ll be getting over haha.

I personally love a blinding highlight, I find that if I want to tone it down, I can always just apply less, or blend it out more. This one looks lovely, not too glittery or harsh but the shade is very pretty. Never actually tried any of the MAC highlights, would love to get my hands on these. Thanks for sharing this lovely review, hun. <3 x

Exactly, I definitely prefer the mac extra dimension finish highlighters (double gleam) way more. I think I’m going to need other shades from that line too.

For me I found soft and gentle to be intense! Well not super intense but it’s not subtle/natural on my skin, maybe that’s just because I’m so fair though.

Some people do find it to be very glowy but I’m way to extreme with my highlighter taste, the more intense the better for me haha. x
