It’s that time again folks, where your draw drops at how much new makeup I’ve tried! No, I don’t need an intervention, I’m quite good with having a makeup addiction. There are lots of products to talk with you guys about so I’m going to jump straight in!
It’s a long one, bring snacks!
This is one of the most talked about base products ever! It’s all over Instagram, the blogging world and even in beauty magazines. Everyone loves their IT cosmetics CC cream and I haven’t heard one person bad mouth it. It’s been on my wishlist for ages and I finally was able to get my hands on it! It was always out of stock on Sephora to the point where I was about to give up and purchase it from Beauty Lish. But then the makeup gods descended down and I spotted it in stock on Sephora … so of course, I pounced.
Though the title says ‘CC cream’ it definitely packs a lot more coverage than a typical CC cream. Its super long-wearing without being drying or cakey. Your base looks super fresh all day long and even though I have dehydrated skin with an oily t-zone it works well on my skin. I also know of many oily skin gals who also love this base product and find it long wearing, it’s truly magic in a tube!
It covers quite well, I reckon you can get this to about a medium coverage. It’s quite easy to apply as well, sometimes I can be clumsy with my foundation application & apply way too much. But this I applied and slightly built up and it looked awesome. It blended out like a treat and melts into the skin very well without looking cakey or sitting awkward on the skin. it feels super weightless on the skin and it doesn’t transfer. When I touch my face it doesn’t feel wet, greasy or crusty – it feels the same as when my face is makeup free! I’m just in awe of this foundation, I love how my skin looks every time I wear it and it’s wear time is out of this world.
I’ve recently tried the original hoola bronzer from benefit in their “blush bar palette” and while I love it it works better for contouring on my skin tone. This Benefit hoola bronzer is the perfect product for solely bronzing, it’s light enough that it gives me a sun kissed/bronze without looking too opaque and yet it shows up on my skin very well. I can already tell this is going to be in the rotation of bronzers I use the most!
This is basically foundation pigment in a bottle! The first time I used this product I wore it alone and applied the same amount I’d apply with a typical foundation – BIG MISTAKE. Aside from having selected a shade that was far too light for me, the amount I applied was way too much and turned into the cakeiest mess ever! I actually washed my face immediately because I couldn’t handle it. So watch out with how much you apply, you literally need a tiny amount. After my first experience with it, I figured it’s best to mix it with foundations rather than wear it alone and it’s actually worked out wonderfully this way. I can take some of my much-loved foundations that only pack a natural coverage and give it a boost! The product does blend well into the ski, WHEN YOU DON’T APPLY TOO MUCH. I also notice my overall foundation to last longer whenever I mix this into one I love.
I never tried the original formula of this foundation (which everyone raved about) but with this foundation I am super happy with it. I was nervous coverage would disappoint me but it certainly did not! It has a medium-full coverage and what gets me with this foundation is just how hydrating it is, not only does it go on easy and blend out like a dream; throughout the day my skin looks hydrated. This foundation makes my skin appear look super healthy and hydrated and gives this skin this natural glow. Now despite it being super hydrating, it lasts very well throughout the day, like very well! My nose does get shiny throughout the day but my nose is always oily, with and without makeup! A little touch up makes it good as new
This is one talked about highlighter kit! For so long I didn’t plan to pick it up because with highlighter kits there’s always that one shade you can’t wear on you face because it’s too dark. Nothing bothers me more than one there’s one shade in a palette I can’t use. Overall the shade range of this highlighter kit is very user friendly and works well with my skin tone. Now anyone who’s been reading the blog (or following me on my Instagram blog, knows I love me a STRONG highlight. There aren’t many highlights I’m happy to wear on their own without layering with a more intense highlight. With this kit, I wear the highlight on its own – it’s super pretty, gives a very noticeable glows to the cheeks & cheekbones and is very easy to apply. This one gets the tick of approval for me in terms of glow factor!
When you are applying this foundation it doesn’t feel AS hydrating as you think it would be. Of course, by that I mean it isn’t one of those slip and slidey type of foundations, it has some tackiness to it and you do want to blend it out quickly and be careful not to apply too much. That being said when it’s on the face, your skin looks healthy and hydrated and it doesn’t dry up your skin or go crusty throughout the day. It lasts very well and doesn’t cake up, I even looked in the car mirror A.K.A the mirror of death where most of the time I never look cute and my foundation still didn’t look cakey. That alone puts this foundation in my good books and I look forward to playing with it some more!
This has been raved about by so many people! Now I’m quite content in the land of drugstore makeup when it comes to contour kits and lately I’ve been into bronzing over contouring BUT curiosity got the best of me when everyone kept talking about it. Now I’m not one to fall for hyped products (especially hyped products that are talked about when the product is released but then falls into radio silence). The hype surrounding this contour kit has not died down and I see many times individuals panning this kit – so it must be good if they are able to pan it. I find this it’s so blendable! You’re able to do a quick contour and blend it out nicely. The powders aren’t chalky or dusty or even patch, they just glide onto the skin. I also love the highlight shades and use them for multiple things – such as sweeping underneath my eyes for a brightening effect to cleaning up underneath my contour. I also set my eyeshadow primer with the highlighter shades.
I’m using this product as a setting powder I pair with light coverage foundations. I love me a light coverage foundation but at times I like to set it with a powder that has good coverage. This does have wonderful coverage and I need to try and use it as an actual foundation itself. It’s super finely milled & it’s sifter is a net which means a simple jab gets the product out with no mess.
I have been on a smoothing primer kick! If you haven’t been able to tell from my previous ‘trialling new makeup’ post or from this one. This one feels like a smoothing primer and moisturizer in one. It gives the skin a little bit of tackiness but that helps boost the longevity of foundations and keeps them from slipping and sliding all over the skin, I really like it so far.
There is a reason everybody and their cat rave about this primer! It’s pricey but it’s so freaking worth it! It smoothes out the skin like a dream without pilling or balling up onto the skin. It hydrates the skin as well leaving it silky smooth, blurred and your foundation looks amazing over the top! It really is like a magical Instagram filter in a jar! This primer is the best of both worlds as it smoothes out and hydrates and it can even turn those stubborn foundations that can look textured and funky into a smooth treat. This is one primer I am 100% repurchasing, but don’t tell my bank account that.
Ever since pixi launched these highlighters I knew I wanted one, add to the fact everyone seemed to be raving about them, I was like YUP I definitely need them. To be fair I say this about a lot of highlighters but pixi is a freaking awesome brand so this highlighter addict couldn’t say no! The highlighter is the gel to powder type of formula, it’s so smooth and glides onto the skin, leaving a beaming trail as it does. It doesn’t look glittery or tacky or chunky, it’s just absolutely glowy heaven on the skin. I do wish the pan sizes where a bit bigger but I just use a small highlighter brush with them. This particular shade “subtle sunrise” is great for fair to light skin tones!
Laura Gellar ‘Gelato Swirl’ Highlighter *
Prior to this I hadn’t tried a single product from Laura Gellar, it’s not the easiest brand to get in Australia. I had always heard of their infamous gelato swirl highlighters and this highlighter kit had to try them for herself! Despite the shades looking quite dark in the pan, I was able to use both on my skin tone and still look pretty dewy considering they aren’t’ the lightest colours.
Before I tried this corrector, this gal was using red lipstick to cover up her dark circles – no joke! And while that work there were days where it would turn my concealer orange-ish so it wasn’t exactly a fool proof plan! This corrector gives you an opaque peach finish under the eyes, I smear this all over and its super opaque so your dark circles and it works brilliantly under concealer. It’s so hydrating yet it doesn’t move and slide under the eyes! I haven’t stopped using this since and I already know I’m going to need back up upon back up!
Bourjois BB cream
Bourjois can do no wrong with their base products, I have tried every single foundation (except for one … and I plan on picking that up too). This BB cream is true to form with your typical Bourjois base product – it’s super quick and easy to apply, looks good every time you wear it, sits on the skin so nice and looks like skin. it also wear pretty good for your typical day. Bourjois make the best everyday foundations! The coverage is also quite nice for a bb cream.
And that wraps up another edition of ‘New makeup I’ve been trialling’. Have you tried any of the makeup mentioned in today’s post? What makeup have you recently tried? Drop a comment and let’s have a chat! I hope you all have an awesome day and I’ll see you in the next post.
