The Hourglass ‘Veil Translucent’ Setting powder

So this drugstore loving gal has entered the land of high end setting powders … and she’s hooked! HALP! But in all seriousness as much as I adore drugstore makeup, I’ve always found base products to be a worthy investment in. I still have a lot of drugstore base product faves but the high-end ones are definitely higher on the quality chart.

So I figured why try some setting powders in the fancy department and I can’t believe I hadn’t tried any sooner. One of the delightful setting powders (if you haven’t guessed by the title of this post) – is the infamous Hourglass Vanish Veil Setting powder.

Now if you are a peep who – Hates setting powders/skips that step because you find they make your face look dusty, cakey, powdery, heavy and dry – then you MUST READ THIS POST! I won’t give you spoilers in the intro but I just felt that this post needed that warning label.

Okay so how about we jump into the post?!

Does it sit well over your foundation? As soon as this bad boy makes contact with the skin, it melts into your face looking undetectable but still working its magic!

Is it drying? Not it isn’t! It’s hydrating and silky and the glow it gives to the skin also allows your skin to look plump & hydrated!

Does it keep your makeup in place?: Yes, it does! Now I don’t have a super oily skin type – except for the t-zone (and nose in particular) but my makeup always remains looking awesome at the end of the day when I use this setting powder – and that tells me it’s working its magic on keeping my makeup looking fresh all day.

Flashback? I haven’t been a situation where I’ve worn this and there has been flash photography – I will say it’s not a white colored powder (and those powders are what usually cause flashback) but this powder does give a bit of a glow too – so it could potentially cause flashback.

Shade range? One shade – it’s transparent and works for almost all skin types.

Packaging: It has a mess-free packaging (I know a loose setting powder is the definition of MESS but this one has a stopper in the lid that will prevent spills and not allow the product to come loose if it takes a tumble in your makeup. I use the handle of my brush and tap the side of the powder and a nice amount of powder comes gently popping out of the tiny sifter! I give it a few taps as I apply a decent amount but it prevents too much powder coming out.

Formula: While this is, of course, a finely milled powder as soon as you apply it on the skin it melts in. Your skin doesn’t look like it’s wearing anything, you get a glow but also have your makeup set and locked in!

Pros: It’s mess-free packaging, it melts into your skin but keeps your makeup in place all day, it gives you a subtle – but super healthy glow!

Cons: If you have a more oily/combo-oily skin type you will find that this powder doesn’t keep you shine free – BUT you could still make it work if you paired it with a matte/shine-free foundation. It’s also not super affordable but it’s 100% worth the price!

Price?: $67 AUD (There is a smaller size available for about $20 something AUD) But it’s been out of stock for months so that isn’t the most practical options!

Availability: Mecca, Cult beauty,

Rating: 9/10

Overall thoughts?: This powder is incredible! It does everything you’d want your setting powder to do without looking cakey, dry or super powdery. It makes your complexion look 10/10 and keeps your makeup looking fresh – the perfect setting powder for the winter months and haters of setting powders and/or peeps who have a drier skin type! Seriously can Hourglass do any wrong?

Would I repurchase this? This is one powder that has earnt its place on the repurchase list … not that it will be quick to run out of it!

And that wraps up this post! Have you guys tried this hourglass setting powder or any hourglass product? Are you a fan of setting powders? Tell me some of your favorites? Drop a comment! I hope you all have a fabulous day and I’ll see you in the next post!

I absolutely agree with you, base makeup products (foundations, powders and concealers) are definitely worth the investment. This powder is incredible, thank you for the review!

This sounds absolutely wonderful. I’m not a fan of setting products for fear of them looking cakey and dry on my skin but how you’ve described this is making me want to invest! I totally agree some products are worth investing in to use alongside the trusty drugstore favourites. Fab post!

This is one of my biggest disappointment of 2018. I want to love this powder but it did nothing, absolutely nothing for me. It was a waste of money.

This sounds really good for dry skin, Hourglass is a brand that definitely works for drier skin types, unfortunately I have quite oily skin so this is probably not for me, but I am a huge fan of the packaging. I always get powder everywhere! Thanks for sharing Bernadette, great review and I am really glad you have found a powder that meets your needs, have a lovely weekend xx

Yes this setting powder won’t be loved by the oily skinned peeps! Although Their veil primer is loved many many with oily skin types, that’s next on my list to pick up.

This was so interesting! I’ve been using the Laura Mercier setting powder, and I like it a lot, but I’ve been so curious about this one as well. The Hourglass one looks divine also, I’m gonna have to give it a try!

I’m curious about that laura mercier one but I feel like my dry skin type would hate it, this is more hydrating and gives a very natural glow to the skin as well!

This powder is heaven and definitely for those who usually skip powder because it doesn’t look like you are wearing any powder whatsoever.
