Makeup Revolution ‘Renaissance Glow’ Highlight & Contour duo

It’s no secret that I am a HARDCORE makeup revolution fan! I discovered it many years ago and I still remember the day I stumbled upon this brand. I don’t remember necessarily how I landed on the website but I remember my reaction when I did OMG LOOK AT THOSE PRICES! Those very prices were frighteningly affordable even for us Aussies. And if you guys don’t know beauty products are freaking expensive in Australia – even drugstore brands.

Ever since discovering this brand I have loved it. I did go for about 2-3 years without getting anything (as I got distracted by other brands) but at the beginning of this year march-ish I finally dove back in and remembered why I loved it so much. Since gravitating back to this brand, so much has changed. Firstly their packaging has dramatically improved (something I use to complain about), their product quality became even better and just their range looked amazing. Still launching a crazy amount of products very often – a love and a hate (as my bank account isn’t happy), I’ve definitely fallen in love with this brand all over again.

I know this is one long ass introduction for a review post but this brand deserves a bit of a love poem. Anywho you guys can expect a lot of reviews from the revolution brands (makeup revolution in particular) – this gorgeous highlight/contour duo being one of them!

So let’s jump in!

Does it work for fair skin? Yes it does! The highlight shade is slightly champagne-esque (when looking at it in the pan) but even on my fair skin tone, it’s still super glowy without leaving actual color on the skin – basically it won’t cover your cheekbones in gold pigment – just lots of glow!

How is the highlight? The highlight is super intense, my kind of intensity which means I am happy to wear it alone without layering it. It goes on quite smooth, it’s a teeny tiny bit chunky but nothing that will leave it looking gross or cause lots of texture to be shown. Of course the fluffier & larger the brush you apply it with, the more sheered out it will look.

How is the contour shade? The contour powder is a light cool tone shade. It isn’t too greyish or leaves your complexion looking muddy. It’s smooth and finely milled and blends out super easily. It’s also quite a sheer yet buildable powder so for those of you who are new to the contouring game, this product won’t just splotch on the product, it allows you some room to play around with it.

Formula: I went into detail about the formula above, separate for each. But in a nutshell – the powders are finely milled, easy to blend and work with.

Natural or full on? The contour powder is on the subtle side though, the paler your skin tone is the more full-on on” it can look. I have a light skin tone (but not stark white) so for me, it’s more on the subtle side.

Does it last a good amount of time? Both powders last about the standard time powdered products last. They aren’t crazy long wearing but I don’t notice either of the products wearing off quickly.

Packaging: This duo is packaged in a compact that on the outside looks like a small clutch and on the inside you get two nicely sized pans of products with a cute imprint over the products.

Price: $15 AUD

Availability? The revolution site

Pros: The contour shade is super wearable, works on fair skin, blendable and cool toned without looking muddy. The highlighter is intense, glowy and applies smoothly onto the cheekbones. This duo is a lovely dupe for the charlotte tilbury film star bronze and glow (I don’t own it but you can tell they appear to be similar). This duo is also super affordable.

Cons: For us Aussies this brand is only available online (though I don’t mind).

Rating: 8/10

Overall thoughts? This highlight and contour duo is awesome! Both shades work fantastically well! The contour shade is spot on and so easy to use and friendly to fair complexions. The highlighter is actually deliciously intense and brings a stunning glow to the cheekbones. I have no complaints about this duo whatsoever!

Would I repurchase it? I do see myself repurchasing this … when I eventually hit pan on both products – though that will take a long time!

And that wraps up this review! Have you guys tried out this gorgeous duo by makeup revolution? What makeup revolution products have you tried? Drop them in the comments! I hope you all have an awesome day and I’ll see you in the next post!

They ship internationally thank goodness, although we don’t have in store access. I’m obsessed it’s one of my favourite drugstore brands

I haven’t purchased anything from makeup revolution in AGES and I know they get a lot of slack for ‘copying’ other brands, but they are just affordable and such good quality so people are bound to buy it instead sometimes. I love the packaging and the look of the contour shade, definitely going to see if this is in my local superdrug, that’s so annoying that it’s only available online, I am always worried about buying powder products online in case they smash! xx

I don’t think there is anything wrong with a brand coming out with dupe. These days even high-end brands follow trends and copy each other anyway and I like when an affordable brand comes out with a dupe it’s the mentality of “you know that fancy product everyone is raving about … well here’s an affordable version of it”. They also come out with their own stuff which is equally good. Their quality has improved so much I just can’t get over it. Yes but in the UK and US this brand is availble in stores.

I know! I just love it when brands can be super affordable and so bloody good, it really goes to show high end brands inflate the price over silly things like packaging.

Apparently it got recently discontinued (which I wasn’t aware of until just now), it’s such a shame because it’s an awesome product.
