Best Skincare Discoveries of 2018

Following my lengthy‘Best makeup discoveries’ of 2018, many of you guys hit me up on Instagram, asking about what skincare products I discovered in 2018. Well you guys know me, I love to give you beauties what you want! So that’s what today’s post is! I promise it won’t be as frighteningly long as the makeup edition.

Let’s jump right in!

Murad Vitamin C mask*

Murad is one brand I’ve lovvveeeed this year (you will notice that as you read this post) and this face mask is no exception! I feel like Vitamin C agrees with my skin and makes it happy – this face mask does that only better. As you leave it on for 10minutes, you feel the skin tingle (I love products that make the skin tingle), when you rinse it off your skin feels FRESH, brighter and very smooth. This is one of the two masks that made a massive difference to improving my skin’s texture.

Herbivores Botanicals ‘Blue tansy’ mask

This next face mask is the second product that made a major difference in the texture of my skin. This gem is filled with AHAs/BHAs which is pure magic for my skin. The mask itself has a seriously watery consistency but it helps texture like no other. I’d say this one is more dramatic for smoothing out texture while the Murad mask makes more of a difference for brightening the skin. I swear by this stuff because it’s the first product I tried that actually made a difference to my skin’s texture. I’ll be repurchasing forever!

Neutrogena Hydroboost Gel milk cleanser

I am a die-hard fan of the hydro boost range from Neutrogena. I have loved every single product thatI’ve tried from them. This milk gel cleanser being one of them! At first I didn’t like it because I felt like it didn’t clean the skin at all BUT once I started using it as a second cleanse, following a cleansing oil (when removing makeup/SPF) – I was in love. It’s so hydrating and gentle on the skin while still giving your skin a clean. It’s perfect for that TLC for your skin (when regular cleansers could be too much).

Dermalogica sleep cocoon night treatment*

I kind of didn’t want to love this product (because of it’s price tag) but ughhh it’s just so good. Dam you Dermalogica for making dreamy products. This stuff is a gel formulated night cream/treatment that not only helps you sleep better but lets you wake up to glorious skin. I don’t know what it does or how it does it but whenever I use this night cream – my skin looks AMAZING in the morning. Now to savour every last drop before I eventually repurchase this bad boy. |Review|

Cinch Micellar water *

I’m not a fussy pants when it comes to micellar water – as long as it doesn’t break me out, irritate my skin, leave a funky residue (and of course actually removes makeup & gunk) – I’m happy. This one by cinch literally feels like you are using wateron your face only with more effective powers when it comes to removing gunk. This brand is quite simple (only 3 products in their range) but they know whatthey are doing! I’m up to my second bottle and I seriously need to pick upbackups.

Medik8 Night ritual ‘Vitamin A’  Retinol cream *

This one is a new addition to the routine but ever since I’ve started using it my skin has been on another level (*touch wood* I don’t want to piss off the skincare gods and wake up to several breakouts tomorrow). This product basically has the magic of the retinol while also hydrating your skin. I cannot say enough good things about it.

Medik8 ‘Hydr8’ B5 serum*

I feel like there area lot of variations of this very serum. It’s essentially a watery droplet serum packed with lots of Hyaluronic acid. From all the ones I have tried, this one has the highest quality. Something about the formula feels less sticky, slightly more viscous and it plumps and hydrates the skin very well while sinking in quickly. For you lovers of hyaluronic acid – this one is one to check out.

Nip + Fab ‘Glycolic fix’ night extreme pads

I’ve gone through 3 tubs of the daily glycolic pads but the night extreme ones I prefer so much more. I love how the cotton rounds are super soaked with product and I feel like they do a lot more at exfoliating the skin and maintaining smoothness. I’m up to my second tub and it will be definitely a product I keep repurchasing.

Cinch face cheat glow + moisturiser*

This product is quite unique but wonderful. It’s essentially an extremely glowy moisturizer! If you have super dry skin this will be a glorious moisturizer for you because aside from being very hydrating, it has a pearlescent finish that gives you a super glow! Because of my oily t-zone I use this as a primer and sometimes dab a little on my cheekbones on no-makeup makeup days. It’s a multi-purpose product filled with good ingredients that also can work as a makeup product.

Pixi rose flash balm *

Speaking of multi-purpose products this one is from pixi and it’s a good one. It’s essentially a moisturizer, face mask and primer all in one. I love using it as a primer because it’s super hydrating but lightweight and it’s filled with wonderful skin-loving ingredients. It has a gel like consistency and sinks in super quick. I love how this wears underneath makeup as though it’s hydrating, it doesn’t cause the makeup to slip and slide.

Nip + Fab ‘Dragon blood fix Hyaluronic shots *

This product is quite unique. It’s a serum-esque product but it’s packed with hyaluronic acid to the max! It is quite sticky, I won’t lie BUT when you layer a good amount of moisturizer over the top the stickiness goes away. This product plumps and hydrates the skin more than any other hyaluronic acid product I’ve tried. Your skin virtually feels like it’s had a massive glass of water.

Patchology Aqua Flash gel moisturizer*

Gel moisturizers are my forever obsession. It’s rare for me to enjoy a moisturizer these days if it isn’t gel based and this one from Patchology is just that plus more! I feel like it has an almost jelly consistency and it bursts when applied to the skin, soaking the skin with a lot of hydration and absorbing within a minute. It’s super light-weight but its hydrating effects last ages – it also works nicely underneath makeup. The downside is the only place to get this is off the official Patchology website, for us Aussies that’s a hell of a long time waiting for it to ship out. If it does come to Australia (via easy access) I definitely will be repurchasing it.

Peter Roth Thomas ‘Pumpkin enzyme’ mask

This is fairly new so I can’t go into detail about it just yet I’ve only used it a couple of times. From just using a couple of times I can tell you that I’m in love! It tingles the skin (in a good way) and when you rinse it off, your skin feels so incredibly smooth! I can tell that this one will be a fast favourite.

B-Lab ‘just cleansing’ Watery cleansing oil

You guys know how I feel about cleansing oils! They are the ultimate way to remove makeup … don’t fight me on this! This particular one is so unique, it’s by a Korean skincare brand (Korean skincare something I’ve become obsessed with this year) and it’s literally the magic of a cleansing oil only it feels like straight up water on the skin. This is perfect for those who find regular cleansing oils to be too greasy or even for us dry/dehydrated skin gals in the summer time.

Pixi glow tonic*

This particular product is a cult classic and there’s a reason why – because it’s awesome!  Prior to trying this classic, I wasn’t a major fan of glycolic acid because I was convinced it didn’t agree with my skin. After using the glow tonic I realised glycolic acid could exfoliate your skin without drying it out. This one is super nourishing while still doing what glycolic acid should do – brighten your complexion! This will definitely be a forever repurchase! |Review|

Murad Pomegranate face mask*

Another standout product from Murad. I use to only use this face mask on my nose and I liked it but I realised it makes an awesome all over face mask. Whenever I’ve been fairly bad with my skincare consistency I like to whip out this face mask, slap it on and it feels like a reset button has been hit on my skin. My skin feels clean and smooth (without being dried out). The formula of the mask is also a little gritty so as you rinse off your face, you’re giving it a gentle scrub too. I don’t know what it is about this face mask but me being so lazy and inconsistent with face masks – this is frequently used. I’m in need of repurchasing it too because I’m almost out of it.

Nutrimetics Clarifying clay treatment mask*

Last but not least is another face mask, this one is from Nutrimetics! It’s a clarifying charcoal-esque mask and when my skin is feeling super gross, gritty and just bleughh – I whip out this bad boy. It’s definitely not for the faint of heart because it’s quite intense. It will leave your skin super-duper clean but it can be a little drying so I like to either follow up with a hydrating facial mask or a facial oil. This mask is also a little gritty, so as you rinse it you are also scrubbing your skin. PS. This mask is friggin messy to rinse off – my bathroom sink will literally be covered in charcoal coloured water – don’t say I didn’t warn you.

And that wraps up this post! Yes it’s still kind of long but compared to my best makeup discoveries of 2018 post it’s a snippet. Have you guys tried any of the skincare products mentioned here today? I love them so much, the daytime versions are average but those night time ones are so awesome and glow tonic is forever the best AM chemical exfoliant.

I cannot recommend that blue tansy mask! It made such a massive difference to my texture problems. Up until that product I’d been struggling for ages to find a product that helps with skin texture.

Yes! I love PTR’s Pumpkin Enzyme mask, it’s a little pricey, but it smells so yummy. I also am obsessed with the Pixi Glow Tonic, I’m already on my 3rd bottle. This was a great list.

That face mask is definitely worth it. I feel like going pricey for those “treatment” products are worth it as they are more potent & effective and because they won’t be used daily they will last longer.
