Reasons Why Using a Cleansing Oil to Remove Makeup is the Way to Go

It’s finally happened.

My obsession with cleansing oils and compulsive need to talk about them/convince people to use them has pushed me to write a whole post about why you need to try them. I am going to keep this introduction fairly short so we can dive straight in.

Let’s go!

It takes off at least 85% of your makeup in one go

I cannot reiterate this enough! In just one cleanse the majority of makeup comes off. You do not need 10 makeup wipes or 10 separate steps till all the makeup comes off, legit 2 pumps of the oil, 1.5 minutes later – most of the makeup is off! We all have those nights when we cannot be bothered to take off our makeup, it’s late, we’re sleepy so we’re tempted to just fall into bed and play the denial game. BUT ever since I switched to cleansing oils years back, I have not slept in my makeup ONCE. This is me (a lazy skincare gal) saying this!

Its super gentle & nourishing (no tugging or pulling at your skin)

When using makeup wipes or cotton rounds soaked with micellar water, there is so much wiping involved it can leave your skin feeling super unhappy. We wipe wipe wipe, and it seems to be a never ending cycle or just more and more makeup coming off the face with no end in sight. This is especially the case when removing eye makeup. Tugging and wiping at the eyes and lashes is not good for your skin, wrinkle prevention or taking care of your lashes. The oil melts away the makeup and you are just using your hands to move the product around your face. You don’t have to scrub with your hands. You are simple moving the oil around your face and it’s working its magic with no effort!

The most effective at removing foundation

Foundation is the single most frustrating part of makeup to remove! Why? Because even when we think we’ve gotten it all off, to a surprise it’s easy to discover more still hanging on the face. When wearing makeup relatively frequently, for each day you still have foundation remnants on your face, it builds & build until your skin is so unhappy it breaks out. In just one step the majority of foundation comes off and of course followed by a second cleanse, everything has come off quickly and gently and you don’t have to worry about foundation hanging around. I like to follow up with a third step of micellar water when removing makeup to truly see if any foundation is hanging around on my skin and it never does.

You are giving your skin some extra TLC after a day of makeup wearing

Makeup wearing is quite fun but it isn’t the healthiest thing for your skin. I like to wear makeup often, giving my skin 2-3 day’s makeup free. So when I am wearing makeup on consecutive days I like to give it some extra TLC to keep it happy and rectify any unhappiness the makeup caused my skin. With cleansing oils, my skin feels so nourished and hydrated (and in the winter months this is crucial as the dehydrated/dry skin struggle is real AF!) There are cleansing oils out there that are less “oily” if your skin type isn’t a fan of any oily residue whatsoever. I haven’t find a gross greasy feeling with the cleansing oils I use, my skin just feels like I’ve freshly applied a facial oil and it’s sunk in. That feeling doesn’t linger in any bad way.

And that wraps up this short and sweet post. I feel like this post was a long time coming as I can’t seem to stop raving about cleansing oils. I even find myself trying to convince people to start using them anytime the topic of makeup removal comes up. I hope you guys found this post interesting and I hope you all have an awesome day. I’ll catch up with you guys in the next post!

I totally agree – I absolutely love removing my makeup with a cleansing oil because it makes makeup removal so easy! I have one from L’Occitane that I absolutely love and I’m a big fan of DHC & Caudalie too xx

I’ve really thought about cleansing oils in the past few months! I love a cleanser that takes off most of my makeup – you’re totally right about the tugging/pulling, plus makeup wipes are terrible for the environment. Definitely will check out some of your faves!

Cleansing oils are the best but I don’t use them that often since I don’t wear full makeup every day but when I do, they are the best for easily removing my makeup! x

If I had to pick one that would be perfect for oily skin. I highly recommend the B-Labs just cleansing cleansing oil. It’s a Korean skincare brand and leaves no residue whatsoever.

I only own one cleansing oil – the body shop’s chamomile one. I really do love it, it’s so lightweight and does an amazing job at making my skin feel squeaky clean without effort or abrasion, even with makeup on – I’m going to have to invest ina few more. Loving this post! x

Definitely agree on the TLC part – I really don’t like tugging and wiping my skin with a dry face wipe! I also find it by far the most effective way of shifting my waterproof liner / mascara 🙂

I can’t enough of oils for removing makeup, I don’t understand how people use micellar water or makeup wipes to take off the bulk of their makeup. Micellar water is step 3 for me, just to reassure everything is off. x
