Empties #5

Good morning you gorgeous bunch of humans! Yes it’s time for an empties and I seriously love doing these posts. There’s nothing more satisfying then using a product up … except when it’s expensive – then it’s just sad because you have to shuffle out a lot of $$$ to have it back in your life. But for the most part this kind of posts feels like a massive middle finger towards my inner hoarder. I know extreme right, but my inner hoarder has me purchasing beauty products by the bucket load – not that I do much to stop it.

So any who let’s talk about the products I’ve used up.

The Ordinary’s Hyaluronic Acid

You guys know how much I love Hyaluronic acid in my skincare so this particular serum is an absolutely no brainer! It’s plumping, hydrating (obviously) and it sinks in super quickly. It’s slightly tacky (but most hyaluronic acid products are!) – and at $9 a bottle you can’t beat it. I have other serums similar to this that are more expensive and while they do feel and act better, this one is still a great one to keep in the vault! I enjoyed using it very much!

Would I repurchase? Yes, just not straight away

Medik8 Advance night eye cream *

I am the laziest person you will ever meet when it comes to eye cream. Just having a whole extra step in the routine and simply remembering to do said step before applying moisturizer is such an effort. But you guys, like my whole skincare situation (which has amped up in the last 7 months) eye cream and consistent use of it has been on the list of goals – and this little empty jar of it is proof. I’ve been only using eye cream in the PM routine (I will eventually step it up to AM and PM) because I don’t want future me cursing current me for not using eye cream. But this current eye cream is actually only directed for PM use anyway. The eye cream itself is thick, creamy and nourishing but sinks in super quickly. It doesn’t feel heavy, irritating or cause the mila under my eyes to flare up. And being that it’s a jar – you’ll be able to use every ounce of eye cream. I really like this!

Would I repurchase? I already have jar number 2!

Physician’s Formula ‘Insta-ready’ Setting spray

I am still working “operation downsize my setting spray collection” and that means using many setting sprays as beauty blender dampeners. This was one of those setting sprays. It’s not terrible (as in when you spray your face it doesn’t ruin your foundation) but it wasn’t special either. It didn’t provide hydration or longevity and only kinda settled the powdery look.

Would I repurchase? Nope.

Medik8 Cream cleanse *

I have a thing for cream cleansers and as soon as I used this one it became my daily AM cleanser very quickly! I basically ran out of it in like 2-3 months which is a record for me because I never use a cleanser that consistently from the moment I open it. it was gentle, hydrating and it gave a nice clean but it isn’t for an intense cleanse. It has a thick almost moisturizer consistency to it. I enjoyed using it but like with many cleansers I’ve tried it didn’t blow me away. I’m still on the lookout for a cleanser I’m obsessed with.

Would I repurchase? I liked it, but probably won’t repurchase it.

Murad ‘Pore extractor’ Pomegrante mask *

I am lazy when it comes to face masks but whenever my skin needs some TLC and a bit of a reset … and I want a mask to do more than just one thing –  I whip this out. Aside from detoxifying my t-zone and helping out my nose situation (which is an uphill battle). I feel like this mask detoxifies the skin without drying it out, pulls out all the gunk, gives it a scrub as I rinse it off and just leaves my skin feeling very clean with no dryness whatsoever! This is in my top 3 most used face masks!

Would I repurchase? Already have!

Murad C essential anti-pollution night cream *

I have developed a major fondness of expensive night creams. No seriously every night cream I love is a minimum of $90 AUD and this one is no exception. I wouldn’t call this one life changing but I just love how it makes my skin feel. It’s so nourishing and glorious without making the skin feel greasy or give me congestion/bumps (which heavy night creams will do). I really enjoyed using this up and even cracked open the packaging when it stopped pumping to get every bit of product out.

Would I repurchase? Maybe

Cinch Micellar water

I’m not fussy with micellar water (as long as it doesn’t break me out / leave a weird residue). This micellar water doesn’t do that. It effectively removes makeup and leaves my skin feeling clean and non-sticky. It feels super gentle and doesn’t irritate the skin or break me out (even on the days where I use micellar water rather than an actual cleanser when I am feeling lazy.). The packaging is also super convenient and it’s easily one of my favourite micellar waters and if I only could use one this would be the one I pick

Would I repurchase? I sure will be. I prefer to purchase this whenever I catch it on sale as $20 for a micellar water is a little much. But luckily it’s on sale quite often.

Patchology Aqua flash *

You guys know how much I love gel moisturizers. This particular gel moisturizer feels like a cold glass of water on a hot day for the skin! It’s extremely hydrating and plumping but doesn’t leave any greasiness to the skin. it is on the tacky side which is a frequent charactistic of hyaluronic acid. It pairs very nicely underneath makeup and the only thing I’m not crazy about is the tacky feeling (on my no makeup days it can feel a little annoying to wear) but other than that I love it.

Would I repurchase? No, only because I’m not bothered to exclusively order it through the international Patchology site just for one product.

Nip + Fab ‘Glycolic fix’ daily pads

This is my third and final tub of the daily version of these pads. I used them and I like them but they aren’t mind blowing for the $35 AUD price tag. I much prefer the night time versions but if you have skin on the sensitive side these might be more for you.

Would I repurchase? No.

Nip + Fab ‘Glycolic Fix’ Night time extreme pads

I mentioned above how the day time versions were nice but nothing special. Well the night time pads are awesome. Aside from Pixi glow tonic, they are the other “affordable” acid toner product. They are saturated nicely in product, make a difference to the skin and help maintain the skin’s smooth texture really well. But they aren’t too intense that I can’t use them every night.

Will I repurchase? Definitely! I am waiting for them to go on sale (as they go on sale frequently), then I plan to pick up several tubs and stock up!

Dermalogica ‘Sleep cocoon’ Night treatment *   |Review|

I have a thing for high end night creams and this is definitely one of them. Its gel formulated which means its super light-weight but it makes a hell of a difference to the skin in the hydration department. It hydrates the skin like crazy and isn’t heavy in the least bit, it also doesn’t have a tacky or greasy residue and I have noticed to make sleep better.

Will I repurchase?: Probably but not right away.

Avene Hydrance Optimale serum *

A lovely serum, hydrating, plumping and it sunk in super quickly without a sticky or greasy residue. It spread around the face quite easily and layered wonderfully under my night cream. It’s a great summer time option as it isn’t too heavy. However, it is on the pricey side.

Will I repurchase? Probably not as while I enjoyed it it’s overly expensive for a hydrating serum.

Innoxa cleansing oil (discontinued)

Cleansing oils are my ride or die and I did a post all about why I adore them (click here to read that). This one removed makeup well, did the job and I liked it a lot. It wasn’t too thick/greasy and it rinsed off easily, nourished the skin, didn’t break me out and was fairly mess-free in the packaging department.

Will I repurchase? It’s since been discontinued so no.

Neutrogena ‘Hydroboost’ Night concentrate

This isn’t actually an empty but I am getting rid of it. I adore the hydro boost range from Neutrogena there hasn’t been a product I have disliked. This product wasn’t a dislike – I loved how hydrating it was, quick sinking and it’s the only “night cream” I enjoyed that was affordable. BUT it left a somewhat tacky residue on the skin and I am ‘face into the pillow’ type of sleeper so I cannot stand any residue/ tackiness whatsoever. It got to a point where it just annoyed me to use it so I stopped and switched to another night cream and the tacky issue subsided. It’s a shame because I love it but just can’t stand even slight tackiness on my face for my PM routine.

Rose Hip Plus cream cleanser *

This cream cleanser became part of a little skincare pan project because it had been sitting on the shelf a little too long. I love cream cleansers in general because they are so hydrating and nourish the skin – I especially love them as a second cleanse! This one was hydrating, gentle, thick in consistency and did a good job at cleaning the skin without stripping it!

Will I repurchase? If I stumble upon it in store, yes! I only know of its availability online on the rose hip plus site and I can’t be bothered to order it from there.

And that wraps up this review! Have you guys tried any of the products mentioned here today? What products have you used up recently or are trying to use up? Drop a comment and let’s have a chat! I hope you all have a great day and I’ll see you in the next post.

The Ordinary’s Hyaluronic Acid is one of my favourite too. I really want to get into other products as I’ve heard, like you said, that it isn’t as effective as others. But you’re right – for the price you really can’t beat it.

Exactly, It’s earnt a happy place in my skincare rotation. I do notice better quality ones but those ones are difficult to consistently repurchase (considering how quickly they can run out and with their large price tag).

That one is a classic and it does the job! I am so eager for a sale so I can stock up on those pads, they are way better than the day time versions.

It’s definitely so easy to work with. I should have done that, I’m currently using the nivea micellar water and I miss the pumps.

My skin tone found the original ones too gentle, I definitely like to pack a punch when using acids

I’ve been enjoying more expensive moisturizers as well recently – they just feel so luxurious! So the Murad cream sounds lovely.

Especially night creams! Day moisturizers pack more affordable options but night creams suck in the drugstore.

Finishing beauty products always feel like a major accomplishment to me; I was so glad to come across your Dermalogica night cocoon review as I was curious about that for a while. Seems insanely expensive for what it is but I’d love to try it out when the next Sephora sale rolls around!

It really does (unless the product is expensive and it’s one of your favourites – then it’s sad haha. It definitely expensive, if there’s a chance to find it on sale, I’d try it then. x
