MAC Mineralized ‘Extra-dimensions’ Highlighter

It is no secret that I love me some highlighter. I straight up feel naked if I do not wear highlighter as part of my makeup look. So today I wanted to chat to you guys about a nifty highlighter that I’ve been using.

I’m going to cut to the chase and jump straight into the review! I’ll catch you guys on the flipside!

Does it work with many skin tones? When looking at this highlighter in the pan it can appear as though it won’t be wearable on fair skin as it’s more of white gold/champagne shade. However, when you swatch this highlighter it’s definitely suitable for light skin tones.

Is it overly glittery? When you swatch it you can see glitter but when you apply it with a brush that glitter doesn’t appear on the skin too obviously. It has more of a glossy sheen finish to it.

Is it too natural? It’s not crazy intense but at the same time I am happy to wear this highlighter on its own (and I’m so picky with what highlighters I wear by themselves)

Where is it best for applying on the face? I love to apply this all over the cheekbones and cheek. It’s not one of those super-duper intense highlighters where you only should apply them on the highpoints of the cheekbones, you can be a bit more generous with this highlighter.

Price: $54 AUD

Availability: Mac site, Myer

Formula: The formula of this highlighter is incredibly smooth. The regular Mac mineralized skin finishes feel frosted and a bit rough but this highlighter is smooth and doesn’t look textured or powdery on the skin.

Highlighter on fleek? I’m very happy with my highlight when I use this. If I feel like taking this highlighter to another level, I spray my highlighter brush with fix + to make the glow factor pop!

Pros: This highlighter is super glowy and noticeable on the skin (I’m happy to wear it on its own), it has a very smooth and fine texture, doesn’t look powdery or textured on the skin. The shade is very versatile and it has a glossy finish.

Cons: The shade range of the extra dimension skin finish highlighters isn’t ideal for pale skin tones. Double gleam is the only one that works for my skin tone.

Rating: 8.5/10

Overall thoughts This is a wonderful highlighter! It’s glowy, pretty and noticeable on the skin. It’s day time wear friendly (even though I go OTT with highlighter even during the day!). I just love that it doesn’t have a powdery/texturized look to the skin and it goes on very smooth. It also has this super glossy, pretty finish.

Would I repurchase? Out of the Mac highlighters that I’ve tried so far, this is definitely my favourite! I need to do extra digging to see if I could find another wearable shade in this ‘extra dimension’ range.

And that wraps up this review! Have you guys tried out this highlighter or any of the mac highlighters? Drop a comment and let me know, I love hearing from you guys. I hope you all have an awesome day and I’ll see you in the next post.

Some highlighters are tricky to swatch as they give more glow than actual colour. x

It sounds a beautiful highlighter. I have never actually tried any of Mac’s highlighters before.

Definitely. I owned two of their original mineralized skin finishes (including soft and gentle) and I decluttered them. This one is my favourite.x

I have a Mac highlighter palette and it’s really pretty, I would love to try more. I have fair skin so I might like this.

Is it one of those trio highlighter palettes? I have been wanting to try one of those. Yes ‘double gleam’ is the one shade from the extra dimensions range that is friendly to fair skin tones, the rest give off more colour (e.g golden / lilac)

I’ve swatched these highlighters in store and they really do look amazing! I’ve just not found a shade that I absolutely need… If it’s too basic, I probably already have it, and if it’s too bold, chances are I’m not going to wear it a lot 😀 I think my collection is so saturated with highlighters already, maybe it’s time to stop buying them…. just maybe!

We all get busy, I’ve been struggling with blog post reading myself. The shade range of these particular highlighters are a bit iffy – double gleam is the only shade that worked for my skin tone the others gave more colour than glow. It has surprisingly been quite a while since my last highlighter purchase but the original mineralized skin finishes from mac were a fail for me so it’s good to know there are still some good highlighters from mac.

This highlighter looks gorgeous! I have a highlighter from MAC, but find that its too dark, so I may have to try this one out xx

Yes the shade double gleam is the only shade from this range that works on me, all the others are too dark.
