Nyx 'Total control drops' foundation

Nyx Cosmetics ‘Total control drop’ Foundation

Hello there you gorgeous bunch of people! It’s time for a review and you guys know how much I love doing foundation reviews! Aside from it giving me an excuse to try a lot of foundations, I just love foundations and all base products really so naturally, I love to tell you about foundations I’ve tried – the very good and the sucky ones too.

To find out which category this foundation slots into, keep reading!

What are the claims of this foundation? This foundation claims to allow you to have sheer to full coverage and allow you to adjust it to your personal preference. It has a velvety-matte finish. It claims that with “more” drops you will achieve more coverage. It also claims to give you a smooth finish.

Does it deliver on these claims? The coverage of this foundation is quite fantastic! I have tried using this foundation aiming at a “sheer” coverage but I love that you can get easily medium to perhaps 85% full coverage. I also don’t apply too many drops as this foundation only has 13 ml.

Skin types appropriate for this foundation: I’d say normal to dry, I don’t know how its lasting powers would be for oily skin types.

Coverage: Medium to full coverage – though you would need extra drops to get to that full coverage level. You can also apply 2-3 drops maximum and sheer out the foundation for a more natural look.

Finish: As this foundation claims to have a matte/velvety finish – I can confirm this! This foundation doesn’t leave you looking shiny but at the same time, my skin doesn’t feel zapped of all moisturizer (it also doesn’t look dry and powder!).

Formula: This foundation is a straight up watery foundation! You shake it before opening and drop it onto the face. It blends out easily, sits on the skin well and looks like a second layer of skin (a more flawless one). You want to make sure you do additional blending as these kinds of watery foundations can be prone to brush strokes.

Longevity: This foundation doesn’t make any claims in regards to how long it wears for. I’d say you can get the average 8-hour wear from this foundation (using a primer, setting powder and setting spray of course). It does last quite nicely on my dehydrated skin with an oily t-zone but I wouldn’t say individually it has any massive long-wearing capabilities.

Application: Applying this foundation is fairly straightforward, you just drop the amount you want all over the face and blend away. As it is very watery you want to blend it out quickly to keep it from dripping off your face and onto your clothing. I prefer blending this out with a flat top synthetic foundation brush and then going over it with a damp sponge to blend out the brush strokes. Some of you may prefer to just use a damp sponge for this kind of foundation.

Shade range: This foundation comes in 19 shades!

What are the undertones of this foundation? Warm/yellowish undertones.

Packaging: A small glass bottle with a dropper applicator

How much product are you given?: 13 ml – less than half the normal amount you usually get in a foundation.

Pros: It has very awesome coverage, the finish is so natural and doesn’t dry out the skin but also doesn’t make you appear greasy. The shade range is quite wide and it lasts well on the skin. This foundation also sits very well on top of skin and doesn’t look awkward.

Cons: You only get 13 ml that’s left than half the normal amount (which is 30 ml). Also considering this foundation is marketed as “more drops = more coverage” you think they wouldn’t be so stingy with product.

Price: $24.95 AUD

Availability: Priceline, Target

Rating: 7.5/10

Overall thoughts: I really love the way this foundation performs and looks on the skin. It provides lots of coverage without looking cakey or sitting on the skin awkwardly. My only complaint is that you don’t get much product and for the price, this foundation can seem a little impractical. Other than that, I love how it makes my skin look.

Would I repurchase this?: With my intense foundation collection and with how many I love, this doesn’t make the cut (if they increased the product amount I’d consider it) – though I’ll happily use it up!

And that wraps up the review! Have you guys tried out this foundation? What Nyx products have you been loving? Drop a comment and let me know! As always I hope you all have a great day, I love you guys and I’ll see you in the next post.

Great review! I’ve seen a lot of mixed opinions about this one. Most of the negative reviews have been coming from people with oily skin. So it might be a good one for me.

Great Review! It´s too bad they only include 13ml. I usually love foundations that you can sheer out and build up as well, but since I have oily skin most of the time, this might not work for me!

Yes you’d think they would provide the normal 30 ml which is typical to foundations.

I haven’t tried this or any similar adjustable coverage foundations. I don’t know where this would fit into my makeup collection because I have my bases pretty much down to my favourites so will probably skip this xx

Yes I’m becoming more and more picky with the base products I love.

This is quite an interesting one as when I think of foundation drops I automatically think of a light coverage, so it’s nice to hear that you can build this up. I like your line after ‘would I repurchase’ hahah. Would love to see an overview of your whole makeup collection and how you store it all!

I know the (urban decay naked skin foundation) is super duper liquidy as well but has VERY GOOD COVERAGE! Watery foundations don’t necessarily mean little coverage these. If you’ve curious about makeup collection type posts head over to my Instagram as I always give more sneak peeks there!

I love this foundation! I always prefer a foundation that allows you to build it up as I have areas that need a lot of coverage and bits that don’t need much at all, so this saves me having to faff about with additional products like concealer xx

It definitely looks gorgeous on the skin I just find watery foundations messy to apply.
