I’m Back Baby!

I haven’t taken a hiatus from blogging for this long since prior to 2016 but breaks from blogging are inevitable regardless of how long you’ve been doing it. When I first started I was a university student with lots of free time and now I work full time and free time is a luxury. One thing I learned is the importance of prioritizing your free-time and not beat yourself up if you didn’t spend every minute of that time productive.

If you’ve been following me over on my Instagram you know I continued to share my love of all things makeup & books. I’ve recently felt ready to dive back into the blogging side of things but managing both differently. While Instagram has sparked my passion for makeup product photography my core love has always been for writing both creative and non-fiction.

This has never been a ‘let’s kill some time’ kind of hobby but something that has kept me balanced. I’m actually quite lucky to have this hobby because in today’s society creative hobbies aren’t easy to come by. Even during my massive hiatus and when I first started working full time, at no point did I want to quit blogging. I had every intention of returning to blogging I just knew how I went about it had to change.

Firstly, I want to be more selective with my content. I’ve cut off PR content (except for the extra rare occasion) and I want to make content that I’m super excited about. After all, my love of blogging stems from sharing my love of beauty products with you guys (also book-related content will be featured). I use to have this motto back in my early blogging days that I essentially wanted to post about EVERY SINGLE BEAUTY PRODUCT I TRIED. The downside to this is that in between my favorite products and the products that didn’t work out for me was this huge middle. You know the products you don’t have an overly strong opinion about. My original mindset had me reviewing everything and when you don’t have a strong opinion either way focusing an entire post on that kind of product wasn’t exciting and it was also time-consuming.

In the spirit of creating content that excites me I want to focus on the products I have a strong opinion on. It doesn’t mean other products won’t get a mention just because they don’t get their own post. I definitely want to have a less is more approach with content which even applies to blog series and non-review posts. I’ve cullet about 90% of my pre-written content because it became dated and didn’t excite me.

I also want to be realistic with my posting schedule. 1-2 times a week is the goal and I don’t need to set myself an expectation of posting daily or very frequently just because that’s what others are doing. All you lovely readers who’ve stuck around are busy yourselves and follow up with many bloggers. Plus selective content means I won’t have an infinite supply of content to write.

Pre-writing content will still be the case but on a smaller scale, 5-6 posts in advanced max. I’m not entering the blogging Olympics and I just don’t have that much time available so pre-writing is mostly to compensate for weekends where my free time can’t be spent blogging or I want to take a week off from making new content. There will be some weeks I may not get any posts written, run out of my pre-made content, and don’t get anything up for you guys – that’s just a fact of life. One of my main goals this year (despite the shit storm that ensued in 2020 – was to be okay with not always being productive. I want to appreciate the productive days and accept the days where you didn’t get anything or even all you wanted to be done).

I’m well aware this is quite a random post to start off with after almost 9 months or no content but I wasn’t going to jump into beauty content without addressing the elephant in the room. I wanted to share with you guys why I took a break and what will be changing on here. Both for the beauty content and book content. I have such a new zest for blogging again because I’ve moved a lot of the clutter surround content, expectations and replaced it with excitement and a realistic quality over quantity mindset.

As always I love hearing from you guys so comment anything you’d like even if it is to say hello. If there’s any content you do want to see drop it in the comments below because I’m always looking for new ideas.

Signing off for now but I will see you gorgeous humans very soon!

x B

Thank you lovely! A break is definitely needed but I knew this break was also to start thinking about what I wanted to do differently because blogging when your not working vs. when you have a full-time job definitely makes you realize a change is needed.

Welcome back love! It’s okay to take a break sometimes. I’ve definitely had to cut myself some slack when I started working fullt time. The first year I was blogging, I was at uni and I posted every. single. day. I don’t know how I ever managed to do that! Now with working full time I sometimes can’t even find the time to take pictures, especially in winter when the hours of light are at a minimum. When I can’t reach the deadline of my weekly post on Saturday I try not to stress about it and just leave it for another week. It’s okay, nobody will even notice, probably 🙂

Glad to see you back! x

This sounds like such a lovely products! It’s awesome when you find that one product that turns out to be a complete game changer. I do agree that it’s quite a little pot, you’d think it should be at least as big as a concealer jar. This shade would definitely be too dark for me personally but I’m keep to check out that lighter shade. Great review!

Exactly! It’s funny how blogger guilt can be such a thing when you don’t post as much as you want or fill each day with lots of productivity. I’ve even extended this to Instagram. If every now and then I need to take a week off from uploading on Instagram – so be it. A year ago that would be unimaginable. Obviously, I do my best to make some content in advance but I only have my weekends (when I don’t have other commitments to do blog stuff). When you take away the guilt it makes the hobby much more enjoyable!

Welcome back to blogging! I’ve always followed and gave the advice to make sure you’re passionate about what you’re doing, because otherwise it can be extremely easy to get burnt out. That’s especially true in the blogging world where you really have to be self-motivated lol. Glad to hear you’ve figured out what type of content and schedule will work best for you at this point in your life. Cheers to an amazing holiday season and 2021 ahead!

Thank you so much lovely! It’s definitely felt much better the way I approach blogging now, no more worrying about numbers, stats (of course I still like to do what i can to help boost my blogs visibility but it’s more important to love what you are doing). I think in particular just embracing more of a do what you can attitude and being realistic when it comes to to-do lists is so important. That was one of my goals for 2020 because i use to dwell on unproductive days and if one thing remained on my to-do list it would bug me.
