Anastasia Beverly Hills ‘Sugar Glow’ Kit | When a cult favorite is nice but not extraordinary!

Hello gorgeous humans. You know what time it is! Time to chat about all things makeup and today we a focusing on a cult favorite highlighter kit. I’ve started including very tiny spoilers in the title of the post just to gives a sneak peek. What are your thoughts? Do you like me doing this or would you rather be surprised? Tell me what you think!

I’m going to cut the chit chat and jump straight into the review.

Here we go!

What are the claims of this product?

This highlighter kit claims to contain pigmented, finely milled highlights that easily apply and blend onto the skin. The highlighters promise to be easy for layering and building of color so you can achieve a flawless highlighted look. It also promises the shades to be designed for versatility and a customized glow.

Do they deliver?

These highlighters definitely give you lots of pigmented and A LOT OF GLOW! The highlighters aren’t chalky or chunky, they don’t look powdery on the skin either. You get that bright beam without obvious shimmers sitting on top of the skin, though if sunlight catches your face – you will see some shimmer/glitter. The shades are also quite wearable.

Longevity?

Your sharp glow definitely lasts all day. I don’t notice it disappearing overly quickly though for those with a very oily skin type – you may want to include extra steps like setting spray to lock things in.

Easy to use /How does it apply?

It applies easily but being very very very glowy – you are going to want a highlight fan brush/or a small precise tapered brush because if you just slap this one it won’t look blended.

Shade range?

The versatility of the shades is pretty good considering of palettes often contain shades that just aren’t wearable for fair skin, if you mix all 4 of these shades together they do work. I will say that the shade ‘Butterscotch’ won’t work on fair skin if directly applied. Compared to the Dior highlighter kit which only has 2/4 work as a highlight. The shade range is as close to perfect as you are going to get with a highlighter palette! Keep in mind if you are very pale – then this palette wouldn’t be worth the money as you would only be able to use 1-2 shades max.

Packaging?

Cardboard shiny packaging, the highlighter pans aren’t glued down or anything, you can literally pop them out with ease and stick them in a Z palette if you prefer!

How much does it cost?

$74 AUD

How much product do you get?

You get a lot of product, each pan is a decent size – the product amount of each is 0.26 grams which doesn’t seem like a lot of product but with how little you need this product will last you ages!

Where to purchase it?

Mecca Cosmetica, Sephora AU, Beauty Bay, Anastasia Beverly Hills site

Rating?

6.5/10

Who might not like this?

If you mostly wear makeup in the day time, are very fair skin toned, or don’t like super-duper shimmery highlights – you probably won’t love this.

Overall thoughts?

I do quite like this highlighter kit. Aside from the high price tag + the golden shade, I can’t use it alone it is quite nice. It’s blinding but not so crazy you can only wear it at night and mixing the shades together works well. I won’t say this is one of my favorites and I know it won’t be a repurchase (by the miracle that I do pan it) but it is a nice one with minimal issues.

Would I recommend this to you ?

Even though I can’t list any major faults with this highlighter kit I will say I’ve tried better! There are other highlighters I prefer more and would recommend to you guys. The Anastasia Beverly Hills x Amerezy highlight is my ride or die so comparing that to this highlighter kit, shows that it isn’t anything extraordinary.

And that wraps up this makeup review. It goes to show how one’s opinions on makeup can be sorted mixed. It’s by no means a bad highlighter kit but considering it’s been in my makeup collection for ages I don’t reach for it that much, which shows that it isn’t anything extra special. I do really like it when I use it but I don’t highly recommend/rave about products unless I seriously am obsessed with them. This one just falls in that middle category of nice. I hope you guys found this review helpful, have you tried this palette? What are your thoughts? What highlighters have you tried? Drop a comment and let’s have a chat.

What a great review! I totally get what you mean about this palette not being pale friendly, as I only reach for it when I’ve tanned. Totally agree that it’s good, but not one of the absolute best out there xx

Thank you lovely! I think I’m just a more single highlighter gal, I’ve noticed when it comes to face palettes – I never reach for them much.

I have the Sweets glow kit which came before Sugar Glow and includes marshmallow and butterscotch but I think this version is more wearable. I agree theses are nice to use but may not worth the hype! Thanks for sharing your review xx

I think I’m just a single highlighter gal over palettes, all my favourite ride or die highlighters are singles.

Wonderful review! I love ABH eyeshadows, but this palette was less than I expected. The highlighters aren’t particularly glowy but can come across rather chunky.

Their shadows are way better! Yes, I like the ‘wet look’ and these are a little too sparkly for day time.

This is a great review! I’ve often wondered about getting this highlighter kit but I’ve got pretty fair skin, so I have a feeling several of the shades won’t be wearable for me at all. I love the Amrezy x ABH Highlighter too – it’s my all-time favourite x

Yeah, only 3 shades of this palette are wearable for me. I have learnt that I’m not a highlighter kit/palette type of gal – I prefer singles and the amerezy one is cheaper and better than this kit. They need to make that one permanent. x
